1. Starting Indoors
Start seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before your last spring frost. Soak seeds for 24 hours prior to planting to speed germination.
2. Germination
Plant 1/2 inch deep in peat pots. Keep soil moist at 70-80Β°F. Germination takes 14-21 days.
3. Transplanting
Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost. Plant seedlings in a prepared trench 6-8 inches deep, gradually filling in the soil as they grow.
4. Care
Water regularly during the first two years to establish deep roots. Do not harvest spears during the first two years to allow the crown to strengthen.
5. Harvesting
Begin light harvesting in year 3.
