1. Preparation
Select a sunny location. Clear the area of all existing weeds, grasses, and debris. Wildflower seeds must have direct contact with bare soil to germinate. Lightly loosen the top 1 inch of soil with a rake.
2. Sowing
For even distribution, mix the seeds with dry sand (at a ratio of 1 part seed to 4 parts sand). Broadcast the seed-sand mixture evenly over the prepared area.
3. Seed-to-Soil Contact
Do NOT bury the seeds deeply. Gently rake the area to barely cover the seeds, or simply walk over the freshly sown area to press the seeds firmly into the soil surface.
4. Watering
Gently water the area immediately after sowing. Keep the soil consistently moist (but not flooded) until the seedlings are 2-3 inches tall (usually 2-4 weeks).
5. Care
Once established, wildflowers are extremely resilient and require minimal watering. Avoid using fertilizers, as rich soil tends to encourage weeds rather than wildflowers. Allow the flowers to go to seed in the late fall so they can naturally re-seed the area for the following year.
